Setting Up Word Press, Not As Easy As The Geeks Say!
Starting a Word Press Blog Can Be Easy With The Right Resources
Starting a Word Press blog from scratch is actually a pretty daunting task. Word Press ‘geeks will tell you it ‘the best’ and ’so easy’. Yes for a true geek or someone with experience it most surely is, but for the rest of us it has it moments where one thinks ‘Really? Should it be this hard?’.
A quick bit about my background, I have am a regular user of many web apps, many social networks, Ubertor CMS, and most software. I edit my own videos using Windows Movie Maker or Sony Vegas Pro which I record on a DV cam and import in a raw format. I have used various Adobe CS4 products.
Point being it is not my first day using a computer or the internet.
Despite this experience I would have most certainly been lost setting up this blog with out the help of some great friends on Twitter and a few blogs from companies who’s focus is Word Press for beginners.
I chose a theme from Graphpaper and the gang at Debruyn Design addressed all the set up, hosting and URL. I guess this makes it unfair for me to say from ’scratch’. I could have done this myself but it falls outside my ‘$100/hour rule’.
From there though I was determined to do it all myself…or so I thought. I really would not have gotten where I did in about 8 hours choosing plug ins, understanding aspects of the WP system, learning to use various features that most Word Press beginners likely never venture into never mind know about with the help of friends on Twitter and the following two blogs.
The first is wpbeginner as seen in the screen shot below. From here I learned endless amounts in a short period of time. Most of which saved me countless hours of wondering and really let me do things with my blog that I wouldn’t have thought to explore.
The second is Pro Blog Design again from here I found a great to do list The Ultimate Guide to Setting up WordPress after an Install.
